In October 2017, the Child Protection Reform Amendment Act 2017 was passed by the Queensland Legislative Assembly, progressing changes to Queensland’s child protection laws with the aim to achieve:

  • the safe care and connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with their families, communities and cultures
  • permanency and stability for children, now and throughout their lives, including support when they leave care
  • a contemporary information sharing framework focused on children’s safety and wellbeing
  • other changes that support the Supporting Families Changing Futures reforms.
The amendments have been introduced as a staged approach with early amendments commencing in January 2018, further amendments commencing in July and the final stage to begin in October 2018.
