Child protection legislation update

In October 2017, the Child Protection Reform Amendment Act 2017 was passed by the Queensland Legislative Assembly, progressing changes to Queensland’s child protection laws with the aim to achieve: • the safe care and connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with their families, communities and cultures • permanency and stability for children, now and throughout their lives, including support when they leave care • a contemporary information sharing framework focused on children’s safety and wellbeing • other changes that support the Supporting Families Changing Futures reforms. The amendments have been introduced as a staged approach with early amendments commencing in January 2018, further amendments commencing in July and the final stage to begin in October 2018. This livecast will provide an in depth review of the amendments and their implementation to date.
